Fernando, how did you enter the vertical transport sector?
As a student of civil engineering at National-Regional Technological University of Buenos Aires, an employee of Soimet contacted my mother and asked if I would be interested in entering that company in 1996. I was also a musician, I taught piano and guitar as a music teacher. However, already in the fourth year of my career, I had no experience in construction practice, so I joined a construction company and I managed unique civil works as director of works: a complex of duplex in Las Toninas, summer resort the Province of Buenos Aires. In 1997, construction began to decline and I re-consider the lift connection with the construction. I had a meeting with Adrian Gonzalez, the MD at that time. That was how I joined Soimet in June 1997 where, with Hernán Amoretti, we were Adrian's right hand in the engineering department.
Engineering to sales
When a vacancy happened in the sales department, Nicholas Vrdoljak, president of Soimet, offered me this office. Given my initial refusal Nicolas, always compelling, said to me, "you're a musician; if you have character to be on a stage, surely you have the profile to be a good businessperson, besides this activity will help you in dealing with people. "I felt he was right and I left the engineering department entering sales by the end of 1998. In early 2001 the partial sale of the company occurs to Wittur Group, leaving Eduardo Canals in charge of the general management. Thus began the process of converting a family business dedicated to hydraulic equipment and doors, moving to form a multinational company selling all kinds of components and engineering solutions for the lift market . In 2007, when Horst Wittur sells Wittur Group , 100% of the sale of Soimet shares to the Wittur Group occurs. At that time, with Argentina Wittur reporting to Spain, Eduardo Canals and Javier Navamuel, a member of the board of Wittur, awarded me the position of Commercial Director of Latin America, a position I still retain in the present. By appointing Andreas Witte, CEO of Latin America in 2013, the Group decides that whole region report directly to the holding as an independent business model.
Current position
When Bain Capital acquired the Wittur Group and globally outlined new structures and changes in management, Eduardo Canals left his position of General Director in Wittur Argentina. Given the experience gained with Eduardo, I took office in October 2016 as General Director of Wittur Argentina. Fernando along with Mario Zorzi (Chief Financial Officer) and Roberto Santiago (manager) are also part of the management of the company. In the commercial area, I maintain my regional responsibility. My reports are Sebastián List (Head of Sales Argentina and Southern Latam), Antonio Gonzalez (Head of Sales for the North Latam) and Cristiano Troise (Commercial Director Wittur Brazil). I report directly to Andreas Witte (CEO of the Latin America region).
