During a busy day at Interlift 2019, ELEVATOR WORLD had the chance to meet and interview Wittur CEO Antoine Doutriaux (AD). At the time of the meeting, Doutriaux had been with the company a little more than 18 months, and it was his first Interlift. The experience was proving enlightening for him, as he said it highlighted the scope of the industry, as well as Wittur’s place in it. He and your author (AB) were able to talk about the Interlift experience, as well as what led Doutriaux to the vertical transportation (VT) industry nearly two years ago and Wittur's goals moving forward.

The five levels of modernization

Keeping the installed lift base in perfect working order is the main occupation of many lift companies, in Europe and increasingly globally. According to the latest data published in 2019 by the European Elevator Association, over 6 million 150 thousand lifts are installed in Europe, many of them with more than fifteen years of service. 
The modernisation activities of these lifts generated a turnover of more than €1,629 billion in 2018. 
For a better orientation within this important market, I propose a classification of the main activities of lift modernization in five levels, meeting different needs.

With almost 50 years of existence, the Wittur Group has been refurbished worldwide, aiming for greater efficiency and synergy. A Matter of Taste

Some elements of building design, such as the elevator, are usually considered from a strictly utilitarian point of view. The elevator must first and foremost provide safe and reliable transportation for the people living and working there. This is why many building designs, although impressive, are not innovative as far as building transportation is concerned. Wittur joins forces with Sematic

​Combined company will become one of the significant global manufacturers of components, modules and complete systems for the entire elevator industry 
On April 1^st, Wittur announced that it had successfully completed the closing of its acquisition of the Sematic Group, a leading supplier of elevators and elevator components headquartered in Osio Sotto, Italy. After few months, the integration processes are proceeding at full speed ahead and the new combined company is taking shape.

Wittur initiates operations in its new plant in Londrina

On 29 March, the German industry Wittur Ltda, started operations at its new plant located in Londrina, Paraná. The factory has obtained an investment of approximately R$ 30 million and, according to the company the goal is to achieve approximately R$ 100 million in sales by the end of the year. This is the second plant in Wittur Latin America - the other is located in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has an area of approximately 7000 square meters.
The company is a world leader in the supply of components, systems and modules for elevators. The new plant is installed in an area of 24,000 square meters - of which 11 thousand square meters of built area - and has approximately 92 employees, with the projection to have 120 employees by the end of this year.

Wittur Austria: Healthy Life, Better Future!

A three-day initiative brought to the parking of  Wittur  Austria in Scheibbs a 16-meter long, 16-ton health truck of Labour Lower Austria, where the employees had the chance to check their health and fitness for free. The health-truck was equipped to test and measure body fat, hearing efficiency, lung function and blood values. In addition, a radiation-free spinal screening was performed. Within 15 minutes  Wittur  Austria employees learnt more about their health status, stress levels and possible personal risk factors for heart and circulatory diseases.  Furthermore  individual counselling on healthy lifestyles through medical personnel completed the service.

WITTUR ARGENTINA SA: New President

Fernando, how did you enter the vertical transport sector?
As a student of civil engineering at National-Regional Technological University of Buenos Aires, an employee of Soimet contacted  my mother and asked if I would be interested in entering  that company in 1996. I was also a musician, I taught piano and guitar as a music teacher. However, already in the fourth year of my career, I had no experience in construction practice, so I joined a construction company and I managed unique civil works as director of works: a complex of duplex in Las Toninas, summer resort the Province of Buenos Aires. In 1997, construction began to decline and I re-consider the lift connection with the construction. I had a meeting with Adrian Gonzalez, the MD at that time. That was how I joined Soimet in June 1997 where, with Hernán Amoretti, we were Adrian's right hand in the engineering department.

​International acquisition provides international sales and production momentum

By working internationally in the right way, it is possible for companies to raise to an even higher level of safety and quality. Especially for Dutch companies, it is good to be part of a large network where knowledge meets all different kinds of  expertise and experience in order to achieve an optimal product line.
A good example is  Wittur  BV, a specialist for the elevator industry that focuses on selling available elevator components and systems on the free elevator market. Johan Stoop, General Manager for Benelux, states: "We represent a part of  much  larger company with headquarters in Germany. Since April 1, we acquired Sematic officially. And at the same  time  Patrik Wohlhauser has been appointed new CEO (chief executive) of the Wittur Group. It is a collaboration that is also for our office of absolute value. "

Multinational settles in Londrina and plans to sell $ 100 million per year

German industry Wittur officially inaugurated, on Tuesday (29) in Londrina, its second plant in Latin America. The investment of the new plant is approximately R $ 30 million and the board expects to achieve the target of R $ 100 million in annual sales already at the end of this year. Wittur supplies components for elevators.

The Wittur CUBE Experience

Interlift 2015 presented visitors and exhibitors with a new experience in its 1,500 m2 CUBE, a newly build  exhibit pavilion  meant to showcase one company. In its first iteration, the CUBE housed  Wittur, to  much fanfare and success. Wittur India: The global brand considers India the place to be

Wittur Group is one of the world's largest independent suppliers of components and systems for the elevator industry. Its portfolio includes elevator doors, safety components, gearless drives, cabins, car frames and counterweight frames. India's burgeoning elevator market attracted the brand to the country three years ago, and the venture has been successful since.
Speaking on the entry of Wittur in India, R. Sumanth, managing director, Wittur Elevator Components India Pvt. Ltd., says: "India is the second-largest market for elevators in the world, followed by China.
The market is growing 10-13%. The urban population was 3 77 million as per  the 2011 census, and this [number] is expected to grow to 590 million by the end of 2030.
This will translate to vertical growth in cities that are starved of construction spaces. [The] estimated urban housing shortage was close to 19 million units in 2012. The building industry that will close this gap will be the target for the elevator market, too, and this will be the biggest driver for the growth of the brand in India."

Wittur prepares for the future with a new test tower in Zaragoza

Wittur S.A.U. in Zaragoza, Spain, has unveiled a new elevator test tower which is prepared to perform the most demanding tests. It has a height of 31 meters and has two shafts of 3x3 meters each to test elevators with a load of up to 2,500 kg at 2.5 m /s . The tower, with a total area of 70 m2, has an additional service elevator with a capacity of14 people at 1.6 m/s to access the different floors and the panoramic meeting room at the top

Up with drives

Driving success, which is to be taken literally at Dresdner company Wittur Electric Drives GmbH. The company in the industrial area Dresden Coschütz-Gittersee manufactures different special motors. The drives from Dresden work in many elevators in the world. Servo and main propulsion drives can also be found in numerous state of the art manufacturing facilities. The company, which began in 1983 as VEM Elektromotorenwerk Dresden East belongs since 1999 to the Wittur Group.

A new test tower reinforces the commitment of Wittur at Zaragoza R & D centre

It is installed at the plant in Malpica and it is used  to test elevators, to show to customers and as a training centre. It is 31 meters high and has involved an investment of nearly half a million euros.

Wittur Announces Test Tower, Plant Expansion, Book

Wittur has announced a new test tower at its production facility in Zaragoza, Spain; completion of a plant expansion in Krupina, Slovakia; and publication of a book.

Budapest Metro line 4: massive project blends technology, style and strength.

The Wittur Center of Competence in Zaragoza, Spain, assembled a team of specialists to tailor the vertical transportation system for the new, fourth line of the Budapest Metro. Fire rating certification for range of round lift doors

Wittur group has completed the E120 firecertification for its LUNA range of roundlanding door types (series 3600) according to the European standard EN 81-58.

Wittur supplies parts for opera house

Wittur SPA supplied a modernization package for two passenger elevators for Opéra Garnier in the Palais Garnier in Paris.
The first elevator system was modernized in April, and the second in June-July. The lifts have a rated load of 2000 kg and are capable of speeds up to 1.6 mps. The two cars also feature Hydra glassframed doors with a special silkscreen printing design in the lower part to give optical continuity to the nearby iron balustrade. 

Horst Wittur dies at age 67

Unknown but indispensable!

Wittur has many multinational lift companies as a client, but the name is “over shadowed” by the names of the lift installation companies whose name is always inside the lift car.

April 2010 Wittur BV celebrates their 50th anniversary. Originally the company was named Bot lifttechniek , founded in 1960. In 2001 the company goes with the name Wittur. German “Gründlichkeit” is where they go for. They supply lift components en complete lifts. From big to small, electrical or hydraulic, you can find it there.
