On December 14, 12 mechanical engineering students from the University of Parma visited the  Wittur  plant in  Colorno  (Italy) for a very special “Open Door Day”,  organized  and coordinated by Barbara  Givera  from our local HR team. The event, part of the local employer branding activities, aims at strengthening the partnership between  Wittur  and one of the main technical universities in Italy as well as presenting our company as an attractive future employer for young, talented graduates.

The event, part of the local employer branding activities, aims at strengthening the partnership between Wittur and one of the main technical universities in Italy as well as presenting our company as an attractive future employer for young, talented graduates.

During the day, the students had the chance to discover more about Wittur, to meet and speak with our colleagues getting the feeling of what is like working in an international environment and, finally yet importantly, to test themselves in a realistic business simulation game. The morning program included together with a company presentation and the description of our manufacturing layout and internal flows, also the introduction and explanation of Lean Manufacturing basic principles, with a special focus on all the concepts related to waste reduction, which was also the main theme of the business game.

During the simulation, the students, divided into two groups and assisted by our colleagues Laura Montanari, Mauro Paravia and Enes Ljesnjanin, had to “hunt for the wastes” in one of the cells of our manufacturing plant and create a value stream map listing and classifying all their findings. A jury of experts composed by Andrea Benvenuti, Supply Chain Manager, Alessio Fasano, Industrial Engineering Manager, and Marco Grossi, Production Leader, evaluated the students’ works and awarded the winning team with a special mirror stainless steel cup!
